A Mintlify alternative for a small team
Documarium is a Mintlify alternative where you write, change and publish a hosted docs site from your own Claude, with no web editor or Git repository behind it.
Mintlify stays the better choice if you want a free plan that publishes on your own address, an interactive API reference, or docs kept as files in Git.
Prepared by Documarium. Mintlify facts come from Mintlify's own pages, listed with the dates we read them under Sources.
The short answer
- Choose Documarium if the person who keeps your docs current already uses Claude and you want a hosted site with no web editor or Git repository behind it. It suits docs that are mostly written pages: guides, help and policies.
- Stay on Mintlify if you want to publish for free with up to five editors and your own address, an API playground built from your OpenAPI file, docs as Markdown files in Git, a visual editor in the browser, or Mintlify's AI writing agent and reader-facing assistant on Pro.
What changes for the people who edit
| Mintlify | Documarium | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you edit | Mintlify's editor in the browser, in a visual or a source mode; the Markdown files in your Git repository; or Claude and other AI tools through Mintlify's admin MCP server. Pro adds Mintlify's own writing agent | Your own Claude, in ordinary words |
| What each editor needs | A member seat in your Mintlify organization: up to five members on Starter, any number on Pro and up. Editor and viewer roles are on Enterprise | Their own Claude account, invited to the site; more than one editor needs Team or above |
| Review before readers see it | Publish straight to the live site, or work on a branch, request a review and merge; preview links on Pro and up | Every change arrives as a proposed change with a preview link; nothing publishes until someone applies it |
| Undo | Version history for each page in the editor; rollbacks on Enterprise | Every version kept while the site exists; plans limit only how far back you can see and put back |
How the price grows with people
Mintlify does not price editors one by one. In Mintlify's words: "The Starter plan includes up to 5 editor seats. Pro and Enterprise include unlimited editor seats, so you can add everyone who writes or reviews docs without paying per person." (Mintlify pricing FAQ, read 2026-10-27). A sixth member means moving from Starter to Pro or above; see Mintlify's pricing page for today's figures.
Documarium's Team plan has one price for the site, with no price per member. Starter and Solo are single-editor plans; how many editors each plan allows is on the Documarium pricing page.
Your own web address is included on every Mintlify plan, Starter too. On Documarium it needs Solo or above.
Taking your content out
On Mintlify your content is already in files you can take: each page is a Markdown file in a Git repository, on every plan. If Mintlify hosts that repository for you, you can clone it to your own GitHub account. PDF export and a static export of the whole site are on Enterprise.
On Documarium, the site's owner exports every page as plain text files from Export in the sidebar, on every plan and after you stop paying, with no repository needed. The export is your content, not a working website: you would host it yourself.
Where Mintlify is ahead
- Free publishing on your own address. Mintlify's Starter plan is free and publishes your site with up to five editors and a custom domain. Publishing on Documarium needs a plan, and your own address needs Solo or above.
- API reference. Mintlify builds interactive API pages, with a playground that sends real requests, from your OpenAPI file. Documarium hosts written pages: it has no API playground and no OpenAPI import.
- A Git workflow. Every page is a Markdown file in Git; the editor saves your work there, keeps changes apart for review and lets several people edit the same page at once.
- AI on Pro. A writing agent in the editor and in Slack, which uses no credits, plus a reader-facing assistant and automations, which do.
- Programs and sign-in. Non-commercial open-source projects can apply for Pro at no charge, and some startups for a discount. Single sign-on and roles are on Enterprise. Documarium has no single sign-on, and nothing for teams that do not use Claude.
Moving over
- Open documarium.com/start and choose Docs online. Give it the address of your public Mintlify site's home page, then choose which pages Claude writes.
- Add Documarium to Claude and paste the prompt the start page gives you.
- Claude reads your docs, drafts the pages you chose and gives you a preview link to check before you keep it. It drafts new pages from what it reads rather than copying your Mintlify site page for page, so check each one. An API playground does not come across. You do not need an account for the preview. Anyone with the link can open the preview while it lasts; it isn't private.
